Q of the Day

June 9, 2008

Q: You have lived a good life. You came from a loving family. You graduated from a very well known University and married the woman you love. Together, you started a business that has made you both successful. Later on, you had three healthy children in which they all grew up loving and respecting you, and eventually, being the fine individuals that you are.  You live in a great neighborhood where everyone is like family.

Essentially; You. Are. The. Ideal. American.

Then…You die. Old age.

You open your eyes and find yourself in front of a God. Now, this can be Jesus, Buddha, Allah, an Indian spiritual God, whatever. The only catch is that out of all these believes, there are detrimental consequences for not believing this God. Example, No belief in Jesus equals hell. For Buddha, lets just say that if one never embraced his teachings, then one would never transform to an enlightening stage and thus, sent to a type of mindless hell. (That’s not the case for Buddhism, but I’m bending it for the question.) Whatever the case, you find yourself never to have believed in this God in the past life. So, this God is going to punish you.

BUT!

You beg this God to give you another chance. You ask for another opportunity. This God, (for whatever reason) agrees. He says he will let you restart your life to when you had the business, the loving wife, and amazing children.

There’s just one catch. You must become a disciple of this truth. Telling everyone about this one particular truth. For example, if the Truth is Jesus, you would have to run around telling all the other people of these other religions to repent or else Hell awaits you. If it was Allah, the same thing and so forth.

Second catch to this second chance at life is; because of these changes, the rest of your life will dramatically change. The wife that you loved would divorce you, your kids would hate you. Your neighbors would look right through you. Where ever you went, people would outwardly show their disgust for you. You would lose your business. Your parents would change their names just to avoid you and any connection the media would make. Instead of the good life, you would find comfort in very few people and none of them would be people that loved and admired you in your past. You would live a long painful life with the last years of your life alone. On the day of your death, the only people who would come to your funeral are your children and they would spit on your grave on the way back to their cars.

How willing would you be to destroy the very foundations of your life for this truth. Would the hatred of everyone you ever loved be worth sharing what this God told you to share?
